Welcome to Princeton Pono Pathways

We are excited to announce the launch of Princeton Pono Pathways, a transformative summer program that combines academic rigor with community engagement, exploring Indigenous justice and cultural preservation in the beautiful islands of Hawaiʻi.

About the Program

Princeton Pono Pathways is designed to provide students with authentic experiences in Indigenous justice and community engagement. Our program emphasizes cultural sensitivity, community partnership, and academic excellence while providing hands-on experience in environmental and social justice work.

Program Phases

Spring Preparation (March - May)

  • Academic preparation and cultural orientation sessions
  • Indigenous justice theory and history
  • Hawaiian language and culture basics
  • Community engagement methodologies

Summer Immersion (June - August)

  • Intensive fieldwork and community engagement in Hawaiʻi
  • Community-based research projects
  • Cultural immersion experiences
  • Indigenous knowledge systems

Fall Reflection (September - December)

  • Academic integration and research projects
  • Community presentations sharing learnings
  • Knowledge sharing events
  • Program evaluation and feedback

Application Process

Applications for the 2024 program will open in January. The program is fully funded for selected participants, including travel expenses, accommodation, and program materials.
